Dirk Kunze

Dirk Kunze has been a police officer since 1992. He has worked as a criminal investigator in various stations in Cologne since 1999 and has increasingly come into contact with digital forensics.

From 2006 until 2011, he shared his knowledge of mobile communications forensics, whose standards he influenced significantly in NRW, and taught police applications, which he played a key role in designing and implementing for the police NRW.

After having received his master’s degree from the German Police University, Dirk Kunze took over the investigation department in the Cybercrime Competence Center of the LKA NRW in 2015 and added the Cyber Research and Investigation Center. As the head of a large-scale IT project, he gained experience in both agile project management methods and the implementation of IT applications, taking into account security, safety and change aspects. Both there and as the head of criminal investigation in Aachen he was the police leader in several cyber police situations in NRW and Germany. He is interested in cybersecurity research even outside of his service.

Dirk Kunze has shed light on different topics in several publications and, as the founder of the Cyber Resilience Lab, supports companies and municipalities with his experience, workshops, exercise scenarios and research results.
